From foreign nations to market nation, exploring it all. Expressing the intersection of my interests in culture and business, this statement served as the key summary of the research presentation that I gave on Friday. Having interviews on both of the prior presentation days, I was excited to finally get the chance to share the conglomeration of my research and professional interviews. In fact, although I was scheduled to be the last person to present on Friday, I happily jumped at the opportunity to present earlier when another student offered to switch.
Having given multiple presentations and speeches in the past, I did not find sharing my research with the class to be taxing, regardless of its ten minute breadth. Nonetheless, upon getting feedback from the class, I was able to note a key area of improvement: filler words. Through more practice and criticism from my ISM family, I hope to master my presentation skills by the time Final Presentation Night rolls around. In terms of my research speech, deciding the content that I wanted to cover on my presentation slides and organizing my ISM portfolio was quite eye-opening. As I monotonously placed my research and interview assessments into sheet protectors for my ISM portfolio, it was inspiring to see the amount of the work and knowledge that I had accumulated from just a course of two months. In the next few weeks, I will be working on my original work in which I will be combining my accumulated knowledge to show my understanding on International Business. I hope that I can achieve the same success that I have had in conducting preliminary research and professional interviews.

In life, planning is perfection. Whether it is preparing for an interview or practicing a speech, planning gives one the utmost confidence that even tops the mighty “power pose”. With research speeches right around the corner, figuring out a way to cleverly craft my culmination of my countless research and interview assessments into an outstanding presentation—one that I am prepared for— is my main priority.
Nonetheless, sometimes life hits you with an opportunity that you cannot prepare for or even pass up. As I finished my interview with Ms. Allison Taylor, the Senior Vice President of Global Sales at American Airlines, early morning last Thursday, I was offered the opportunity to talk to Ms. Beth Hochko and learn more about how American Airlines manages their corporate accounts with multibillion dollar companies such as Walmart. Faced with the opportunity to go to class or to learn more about my passion, I picked the latter. Despite now having a looming stack of makeup work to do, I am happy to have chosen the unplanned route because it has allowed me to further expand my knowledge in International Marketing. In regards to the other aspects of my ISM journey, I have started to organize my website and portfolio, allowing for me to truly reflect back on my hard work from the last three months. With three months down, and six more to go, I look forward to seeing what the future has in store for me. |
